The International Surfing Association (ISA) confirmed that Costa Rica was chosen at the beginning of the month to host and organize the World Surfing Open category in July 31- August 9, 2009. Five minutes south of Jaco lies Hermosa, the beach that has been allocated this honor and promises to draw revenues in excess of $1 Million Dollars. Playa Hermosa Costa Rica won this prestige over Brazil and South Africa, two powers planetary in the field of surf.
Billabong will sponsor this World Surfing Games Costa Rica 2009 and will provide a budget of $ 2 million to mount logistics demand that an event of this magnitude. The waters of Hermosa were chosen by the ISA because of his steadfastness in the waves and its proximity to the center of Jaco, a city that has infrastructure development required to accommodate large numbers of people. Jose Ure?a, president of the Federation of Surfing Costa Rica, stated that "Being headquarters of the World Open is the best thing that can happen for surfing and tourism" His words continue to be successful: the ISA believes that in every world at least 80 million people still live transmissions via the Internet, something that would enhance the good reputation of Costa Rica in terms of surfing. This looks to be a pivotal point for surfing tournaments in Playa Hermosa!
